You’ve likely heard about microplastics in our oceans and food. But did you know they are also showing up in your brain—and may be contributing to serious health conditions like dementia, heart disease, and even premature birth?

A new study published in Nature Medicine (February 2025) made headlines worldwide after researchers revealed that the average human brain now contains approximately 7 grams of microplastics—the same weight as a disposable plastic spoon.

But that’s just one piece of an unsettling puzzle.

Microplastics & Dementia

The recent "plastic spoon" study found significantly higher concentrations of microplastics in the brains of individuals diagnosed with dementia.

Increased Risk of Heart Attacks & Stroke

A March 2024 study published in the New England Journal of Medicine linked higher levels of microplastics in the arteries to increased risk of stroke, heart attacks, and death.

Premature Birth Connection

Research presented in January 2025 found that babies born prematurely had more microplastics and nanoplastics in their placentas than full-term babies.

Neurological Impact in Animal Studies

A study published in Nature (January 2025) demonstrated how microplastics blocked blood flow in the brains of mice, impairing neurological function—suggesting similar risks may exist in humans.

While scientists note that more research is needed to definitively prove causation, the growing body of evidence points to microplastics as a hidden and harmful factor in many modern health issues.

How You Can Protect Yourself and Your Family

  1. Reduce Plastic Usage: Avoid plastic containers for cooking, storage, and water bottles whenever possible.
  2. Filter Your Water: Many microplastics enter through drinking water—invest in a quality filtration system.
  3. Support Detoxification: Incorporate nutritional supplements that aid your body’s natural detox processes.

One supplement I personally trust and recommend is Optimal Chemzyme by Optimal Health Systems. It includes Phthalazyme, a unique enzyme specifically formulated to help digest and detoxify the phthalates found in plastics.

Be sure to use code OHSBAKIESEL when you order.

The only supplement that absorbs and removes microplastics and heavy metals from the body is Chlorella. I like the chlorella tablets and liquid, which are available through my office. Contact me for more product information and to order.
